Text Box: Tiny Rutland is a relatively unknown but wonderful part of England. There are lovely Georgian stone-built market towns and quintessentially English villages with country pubs offering excellent food and real ales.

The village of Whissendine has a handsome church, two pubs and a bistro with coffee shop—all within an easy walk. There is a working windmill which produces flour that can be bought in the village shop.

Rutland Water attracts visitors from all over the world for bird-watching, fishing, water sports and cycling. You can see the famous ospreys at Egleton nature reserve or take a trip on the Rutland Belle cruiser.

Nearby Barnsdale Gardens were designed by the late Geoff Hamilton of Gardener’s World.

Georgian Stamford has recently featured in the films of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, The Da Vinci Code and the BBC's adaptation of George Eliot's Middlemarch.

The Burghley Estate with its Capability Brown-designed gardens and sculpture park hosts the popular Burghley horse trials every September.

Melton Mowbray is fast becoming a centre for food-lovers with its weekly farmers market and locally produced Stilton and pork pies.
